Chapter 2: Fixed-value Travel Rewards Cards

Here are the fixed-value travel rewards cards discussed in Chapter 2 of the book and in this blog post:

  • US Bank Flexperks Travel Rewards Visa Signature. Earn 1 point per dollar on most expenses, 2 points per dollar spent on airfare, groceries, or gas (whichever you spend most on each billing cycle), 2 points per dollar on telecommunications expenses, and 3 points per dollar for transactions coded as charity. Redeem points at up to 2 cents per point, in defined tiers. No partial redemptions. $49 annual fee, waived the first year. See my write-up here.
  • Barclaycard Arrival+. Earn 2 Arrival+ miles per dollar spent on the card, and redeem them for statement credits against travel purchases at 1 cent each, with a 10% rebate on all travel redemptions (5% rebate for new applicants). Partial redemptions (in increments of $25 for existing cardholders, $100 for new cardholders) allowed. $89 annual fee, waived the first year of card membership.
  • Capital One Venture. Earn 2 Venture miles per dollar spent on the card, and redeem them for statement credits against travel purchases at 1 cent each. Partial redemptions are not allowed. $59 annual fee, waived the first year of card membership.
